AMAZON BEST SELLER IN MENTORING & COACHING
In the summer of 2006, author Daron K. Roberts was just one year away from earning a law degree from his dream school Harvard. But that summer, in the throes of a clerkship at a Texas law firm, Roberts had a revelation—he wanted something different. Very different. Daron Roberts wanted to be an NFL football coach.

After making the transition from Harvard Law student to NFL newbie, Roberts worked as a coach for the Kansas City Chiefs, Detroit Lions, West Virginia Mountaineers, and the Cleveland Browns. But he’s not forgotten how hard it was to take that first step in a new direction. In Call an Audible, Roberts shares his inspiring journey and reveals his playbook to help guide your next transition.

Call an Audible: Let My Pivot from Harvard Law to NFL Coach Inspire Your Transition

Going through YouTube during some down time more than a few days ago, I stumbled on a podcast that featured Daron Roberts. It was 52 minutes long and I was glued to the whole podcast episode. Daron mentioned the book on his podcast and as soon as it was over, I went to Amazon and purchased it. I made sure I finished any work I needed to get done on Friday night and planned to stay in Saturday to read this book and finish it on Sunday. I kid you not. I read the book from 8pm to 1am. I could not put it down to do other things.

Let me tell you this - we often hear success stories. We see or read the headlines, from grocery store sacker to Hall of Fame, Kurt Warner. From undrafted rookie to NFL rushing leader For The Houston Texans Arian Foster. From 6th round pick, special teamer, Terell Davis, to winning 2 superbowls and heading to the Hall of Fame. This is what I am getting to: these are good feel headlines. As a football fan, this makes me feel hope and adds fuel to the passion to work in football. Daron's book provided what does not get documented at times, THE GRIND.

He attacked every task, strategically. Things didn't happen overnight. Things did not go as smooth as the headline of him earning his first contract to the NFL. He shares his highs, his lows, his mistakes.Imagine the pressure of coming up with a scouting report for the Patriots. Working countless hours on it. You get hit to share it with the coaching staff. First thing the defensive coordinator points out, it is wrong. The wrong play call. The pressure to earn your seat in the coaching ranks. The menial tasks that are not so menial when put into perspective. The VALUE you add to an organization - to save an individual or group of individuals, TIME, for them to spend it with other important tasks , to better the organization. Create your own job. Updating your resume. This book is exactly what one's success story should entail.

I recommend this book, highly. See beyond the football in this book and look at the lessons are that taught at the end of each chapter. Whether you are seeking a better job, making a career change or applying it to your current job, this book has the lessons to mold and sculpture the way you approach tasks or transitions. Daron got out of his comfort zone when he accepted an unpaid training camp intern position with the Chiefs. To get to where you want to be, it will take for you to feel uncomfortable, getting out of your comfort zone and grind.

Call an Audible Let My Pivot from Harvard Law to NFL Coach Inspire Your Transition eBook Daron K Roberts Reviews

Since I started working in 1997, I've been in some form of retail management for 14 years or so. I've always put my job above everything, especially school. Why worry about school when I have a job that can take me places?

Well, 21 years later and almost 8 years into my current job, I am struggling with the future of my job. The industry is changing and shrinking in ways I can't even imagine. What will this industry even be like in 5 years? What will I do in the event that 5-10 years down the road, I'm out of a job? No college degree, just a lot of retail management experience when retail chains are slowly dying out.

Full disclosure I am a classmate of Daron's. Mount Pleasant Class of '97, go Tigers! I remember when he first published the book and what it detailed sounded amazing. It's been in the back of my mind ever since. Then I realized that I don't think this is where I needed to be and all the questions about the future of my particular industry keep dogging me. I would have nothing more to show, in terms of skills, than I do right this second, but I would have fewer years left. So why wait?

I finally bought the book and read it almost cover to cover overnight. I knew bits and pieces of his journey, but reading everything he went through for his dream was incredibly uplifting and inspiring. The challenges he faced and overcame were gargantuan to say the least, but he provides you with the tools and proper motivation to show you that you can do ANYTHING. You just have to stay on target and grind it out.

For anyone that is struggling with their place in the world or if you have dreams of doing something, anything different but might be too scared to make a change later in life, I cannot recommend this book more. I am detailing a plan for myself over the course of this year based on ideas he presented in the book and I'm calling my own audible!
One of the easiest reads I've ever experienced. This should be a book every college student and working professional reads, regardless of their interest in football. It's written like a novel, but with the awesome fact that it's true events and dives into the thinking and actions of what it takes to get what you want when the odds are impossible to beat. It's a playbook, pun intended, on how to get from where you are to where you want to be. The details described in this book made me feel like part of Daron's story. I was anxious, I was scared, I laughed, I teared up, and finally was sad that it all ended. This is one of those books you finish reading and want everyone else to read it so you can laugh about it with them. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy.
Life-Changing. Coach Robert's story is one of the most inspiring stories I've ever heard because his initial dilemma can so easily be applied to so many of our lives. Many of us do not find ourselves in a position where we are happy going to work everyday or where there is any green pastures coming soon over the horizon. Call An Audible, in simple terms, dramatically inspires you to drop that lifestyle in the blink of an eye and pursue whatever career makes you happy. I read Coach Robert's book during the summer going into my freshman year of college, and now getting into my first weeks on campus, and having had the privilege of getting to discuss the book with Coach Robert's in person (I got to UT Austin), I know two things. 1. Coach Robert's mindset in real life is exactly as he describes it in the book. 2. I want to be Student Body President of UT. He never said a word to me specifically about this goal of mine, but his book and his story helped me understand in my heart that that's what I wanted to do, and it gave me the confidence to believe that I can achieve it. As Coach Robert's would say, somebody's gotta be the one, so why not me? This book has changed the way I work toward my goals, and I'm sure that'll be a big reason why I achieve my biggest dreams, someday. It can do the same for you.
